Research and practice
John continues to work for not-for-profit organizations, and provides design, consulting, and art direction to a variety of clients. His current research involves design for a PHAC (Public Health Agency of Canada) funded healthcare project with University of Regina and McMaster University.

Client and sector experience
While working at agencies and design studios, John’s project experience includes graphic design, information design, corporate communications, identity design, and project management for a variety of clients including: BMW (Canada), Cebra (Bank of Montreal), Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Tire, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, ElectroHome, Fidelity Investments, FISERV (US), GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) Pharmaceuticals, the Government of Ontario, Investors Group, HSBC (US), LG Electronics, rare: Charitable Research Reserve, Royal Bank (Global Services), SEI Investments (Canada), SEN5Es (Five Senses), Subway (Canada), TIAA-CREF (US), TD Waterhouse, Toronto Stock Exchange, Union Gas, and many others.
John’s primary sector experience includes education, financial services, legal services, not-for-profit/charity organizations, healthcare and research, automotive, pharmaceutical healthcare consumer products, and government.

Academic background and teaching experience
John has a Master of Fine Art (York University), and Bachelor of Fine Art, Honours First Class (University of Manitoba), both degrees specializing in graphic design. He has received numerous academic awards including research grants, the Samuel Sarrick purchase award for the permanent installation of his work at York University, and a University of Toronto Fellowship and Ontario Graduate Scholarship for studies in the Master of Architecture program at the University of Toronto.
He has been a Professor of Graphic Design at Conestoga College since 2009. His previous teaching experience includes faculty positions at George Brown College, Humber College, OCAD University, and York University. He has given talks and seminars at UCDA (University College Design Association, US), Brock University, Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) University, and E3 Conference and Public Relations program at Conestoga College. 
In 2021, John was nominated by students for the RGD Educator of the Year Award in Eastern Canada and received a honourable mention.
